Toronto City Council names Jim Jessop as new Fire Chief

Toronto City Council has appointed Jim Jessop as the new Fire Chief and General Manager of Toronto Fire Services, effective January 2, 2025. This decision was made unanimously by the council. Jessop has nearly 30 years of experience in firefighting and emergency management. He previously served as Deputy Fire Chief and has held various leadership roles, including Acting Fire Chief from August 2020 to April 2022. In his new role, Jessop will oversee the largest fire service in Canada, focusing on protecting life and property through education and emergency response.
