Tornado Confirmed in Campo Erê, Santa Catarina, After Severe Storms

Brazilian civil defense authorities confirmed a tornado struck the rural area of Campo Erê, in Santa Catarina state's far west, on the night of Sunday, August 30. The confirmation came after analyzing radar data, ground records, and aerial drone images of the damage. The tornado occurred around 7:26 PM, following a severe storm detected by radar in Chapecó, which showed wind rotation patterns. Three buildings were damaged, but no injuries were reported. A cell broadcast alert had been sent to the region approximately 45 minutes before the event. The damage pattern, including roofs torn off and trees uprooted in different directions along a narrow path, indicated rotating winds consistent with a tornado. Civil defense continues monitoring weather conditions in the state.
