Tokyo's Narita Airport expands with a third runway

Narita Airport in Tokyo has started construction on a third runway to handle a surge in international tourists. This expansion aims to significantly increase the airport's capacity. The project, initiated on Sunday, will boost Narita's annual capacity to 500,000 landings and takeoffs by 2029. This is a substantial increase from the current 300,000, and will also include lengthening the second runway. The expansion is intended to support Japan's goal of attracting 60 million tourists annually by 2030. The airport's CEO believes this will strengthen Japan's international competitiveness and boost the local economy.
