Tochigi's Nikkori pears reach peak harvest in Utsunomiya City

Tochigi's brand pear, "Nikkori," is currently in peak harvest season at orchards in Utsunomiya City. Shimada Pear Orchard in Utsunomiya is carefully harvesting the "Nikkori" pears, checking each one for ripeness. This original Tochigi variety is a cross between "Niitaka" and "Housui." Despite a slightly smaller size this year due to the hot, dry summer, the "Nikkori" pears are noted for their sweetness, crispness, and excellent flavor, with harvests continuing until early November.
