Tinubu urged to quit 2027 race over Nigeria kidnappings
Nigerian opposition candidate Olufemi Ajadi has called for President Bola Tinubu's resignation and withdrawal from the 2027 election, citing the government's failure to address escalating insecurity. The demand follows the kidnapping of 19 prospective NYSC members traveling to orientation camps. Ajadi, the Allied Peoples Movement candidate for Oyo Central, made the remarks on Thursday, October 1, after gunmen abducted the group along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State. He urged the President to treat their rescue as a national emergency, noting kidnappers demanded N50 million per victim, totaling N950 million. Ajadi warned Tinubu should resign if the victims are not rescued, calling it "barbaric" for the President to continue while citizens remain captive. He also appealed to security agencies to sustain search efforts and urged Nigerians to share information aiding recovery.
