TikTok rolls out new age verification technology in Europe

yle.fi (Swedish)

TikTok is launching new age verification technology in Europe soon to better identify and remove accounts of users under 13. The platform, owned by Bytedance, will use profile information, videos, and user behavior to flag accounts. Specially trained moderators will review these flagged accounts, not automatically shut them down. This technology, developed with the Irish Data Protection Commission, has been tested for a year and is specific to Europe. Users will receive notifications when it becomes active in their region.
