TIF Viking gets 100 million kroner for new Bergen sports hall

Norwegian sports club TIF Viking has received 100 million kroner to build a new sports hall for children and youth in central Bergen. The donation comes from billionaire Trond Mohn, Sparebanken Norge, and Sparebankstiftelsen, with Mohn contributing half the amount. The club, which has been based in Vikinghallen since 1935, has outgrown its facilities with 3,000 members and currently uses 13 different sports venues weekly. The planned modern multi-purpose hall will include a handball arena seating around 900 spectators, with a total cost estimated at 150 million kroner. TIF Viking's director Roger Gjelsvik expressed pride that the donors see value in the club's work. Mohn has long been known for his generosity toward sports in both Bergen and Tromsø.
