Tempi Trial: Court to Rule on Stationmaster's Phone Data

The trial for the Tempi train tragedy at the Larissa Felonies Court is at a critical juncture, as the panel is expected to rule on a request to lift confidentiality and examine the night stationmaster's mobile phone. The prosecutor's office has recommended a positive ruling, proposing the lifting of communication secrecy and a thorough forensic examination of the device, including calls, messages, and apps like Viber, with an attempt to recover any deleted files. The request was prompted by testimony from the late driver's daughter, who highlighted an unexplained 11-minute gap in communications between stationmasters and drivers before the collision. A total of 36 current and former officials from OSE, ERGOSE, Hellenic Train, RAS, and the Transport Ministry face charges, with 33 accused of felonies for dangerous interference in transport with possible intent, a crime punishable by life imprisonment. Three court sessions are scheduled this week, including testimony from Maria Karystianou, mother of a victim.
