Temi Adegbayibi captures the energy of Britain's jazz scene

Photographer Temi Adegbayibi, 26, has risen from hobbyist to exhibiting his jazz photography at London's Royal Albert Hall, where he now works as an in-house photographer. His work focuses on capturing Black joy and the energy of British jazz musicians. Adegbayibi began photographing Ezra Collective's church band before moving to local gigs, with his 2022 shots of the band at Love Supreme festival convincing him photography could be a career. His images emphasize movement, intimacy and joy, using slow shutter speeds to show both energy and stillness in jazz. His work appears in the V&A East's inaugural exhibition The Music Is Black, alongside decades of images of Black British musicians. Adegbayibi sees competition in London's photography scene as motivation and hopes his images will document Black musicians' culture for future generations.
