Televangelist Apollo Quiboloy arrested on child abuse and trafficking charges in the Philippines

Apollo Quiboloy, a prominent televangelist in the Philippines, was arrested in September 2024 on charges of child abuse, sexual abuse, and human trafficking. His arrest followed a lengthy investigation initiated by a Senate panel in December 2023. The investigation revealed serious allegations against Quiboloy and his religious group, including claims of psychological manipulation and sexual exploitation of followers. Despite evading authorities for months, a large police operation ultimately led to his capture. After his arrest, Quiboloy denied the allegations and was detained while also filing to run for a Senate seat in the May 2025 elections. The Commission on Elections ruled against efforts to disqualify him, allowing his candidacy to proceed.
