Telefónica reports 1.08 billion euro loss after divesting South American operations

Telefónica reported a net loss of 1.08 billion euros for the first nine months of 2025, a significant shift from the previous year's profit. This loss is primarily due to accounting write-downs from the sale of its subsidiaries in Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, and Uruguay. Excluding these divested operations, continued business operations yielded a profit of 960 million euros. Overall revenue for the period decreased by 2.8% to 26.97 billion euros. The company had previously reported substantial losses in the first half of the year.
