Telangana High Court flags concern over rescued trafficking victims' custody

The Telangana High Court expressed grave concern on Wednesday over the care and custody of infants rescued from an illegal adoption and trafficking racket busted in Suryapet district in 2025, stating it is "more concerned than anyone else" about their welfare. The division bench, led by Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, praised the women and child welfare department as "quite proactive" but noted the home department had not yet filed its report, granting another week. The court also refused a visitation request from an adoptive couple for a three-year-old girl at Shishu Gruha, Nalgonda, and appointed senior counsel B Mayur Reddy to assess the children's well-being. The bench questioned officials on adoption procedures under CARA, highlighting that children were placed without complete processes and that police had not traced biological parents in any case involving infants aged two months to two years. The matter is posted for further hearing on Sept 21.
