Telangana chief minister reaffirms commitment to SC sub-classification as government rejects creamy layer proposal
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced the state's commitment to Scheduled Caste (SC) sub-classification, making it the first in India to implement this. The government rejected a proposal to exclude certain public representatives from reservation benefits. A report identified 59 SC sub-castes in Telangana, recommending their division into three groups within the existing 15% reservation. Group 1 will receive 1%, Group 2 will get 9%, and Group 3 will have 5% of the reservation. Tensions arose in the Assembly as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs protested against a caste census survey, claiming inaccuracies. In contrast, Congress MLAs from the Madiga community supported the government's sub-classification decision.
