Teen granted bail in Brisbane killing of man lured to fake date

A 15-year-old boy charged with murder in the July 24 killing of 27-year-old Oliver Conroy in Brisbane was granted bail on Thursday, despite a judge describing the alleged attack as a "prolonged and brutal assault." Conroy died in hospital about two weeks after the incident. The teenager is one of seven youths accused of ambushing Conroy, who believed he was meeting a date in Kelvin Grove. His lawyer argued he acted out of "genuine assistance" regarding a suspected paedophile, but prosecutors said recordings show the attack was a violent robbery. The boy will face electronic monitoring and a 24-hour curfew. Under Queensland's new "adult crime, adult time" laws, the group faces life sentences if convicted. The court is awaiting an autopsy to determine if Conroy died from the initial assault or being flung from his vehicle, which was allegedly stolen during the attack.
