Taxi fares rise at Athens and Thessaloniki airports

Taxi fares to and from Athens and Thessaloniki airports are increasing, along with waiting time charges. The new pricing follows negotiations between the transport ministry and driver representatives and takes effect after publication in the government gazette. The fixed fare from Athens airport to the city center is set at 50 euros, rising to 65 euros between midnight and 5 a.m. In Thessaloniki, the airport fare increases to 38 euros from 28 euros. The hourly waiting charge rises to 20 euros from 15 euros. The drivers' union says the adjustment reflects rising fuel, maintenance, insurance, and operating costs, calling it necessary for financial viability. It adds that the change is not the end of its demands for a new taxi framework in Attica.
