Tanzania and Mozambique focus on industry to build growth corridor

Tanzania's High Commissioner to Mozambique, CP Hamad Khamis, says the countries should prioritize industrial development, regional value chains, and new investment over merely expanding trade volumes. He cited natural gas as key for industrialization, alongside maritime trade, transport corridors, and private-sector investment. Removing border bottlenecks and regulatory hurdles remains vital, with the long-term goal of turning the shared 750-kilometre border into a trade and investment platform. Khamis linked the vision to Africa's integration agenda, including the African Continental Free Trade Area, and emphasized education, climate resilience, and practical benefits for citizens and border communities as measures of success.
