Tamil Nadu Assembly Passes Resolution to Make Tamil Primary Language of Madras High Court

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay introduced a resolution in the state assembly on Thursday seeking to make Tamil the primary language of the Madras High Court. The resolution urges the central government to take immediate legal action under constitutional provisions to recognize Tamil as the court's main language, implement procedures for Tamil filings, and ensure judgments are delivered in Tamil. It also calls for training in legal Tamil for judges, lawyers, and staff. The assembly had passed a similar resolution in 2006, but the Supreme Court's full bench rejected the proposal in 2012. The new resolution argues that technological advancements necessitate a reconsideration of the earlier decision.
