Taiwan removes import restrictions on American cars

Taiwan has removed import quantity restrictions on American-made cars, aligning with US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. This change aims to diversify consumer choices and address trade barriers. The Ministry of Transportation stated that both UN and US safety standards ensure vehicle safety, with minor differences in technical details. This move allows manufacturers to import US-spec cars based on market demand. To be sold in Taiwan, US cars must prove compliance with FMVSS and obtain four certificates covering safety, energy consumption, pollution, and noise. Post-market surveillance and recalls will be enforced.
