Taiwan proposes new law to ease special import of non-essential drugs

Taiwan's Executive Yuan plans to amend the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act to allow special import permits for non-essential drugs when supply is insufficient. This move follows last year's saline solution shortage, aiming to prevent future drug supply chain disruptions. The amendment will enable special imports for drugs with existing permits facing supply issues, subject to review. Additionally, a five-year National Drug Resilience Development Plan will be implemented, focusing on domestic raw material production, international generic drugs, and other measures to enhance drug security.
