Overseas Community Affairs Council chief Hsu Chia-ching was fined by the Control Yuan for a conflict of interest after her son joined an official Dongsha Island camp. She denied wrongdoing. The Taiwan People's Party accused Hsu of relaxing eligibility rules so her son could join the August 2025 Dongsha ecology camp. In June, the Control Yuan said she knowingly failed to recuse herself. Hsu says she hasn't received the ruling. The camp, organized with coast guard and other agencies, targeted overseas students aged 18-32 to promote Taiwan's South China Sea sovereignty claims. Hsu denied any back-door arrangement and urged the public not to spread rumors.
