Tacloban school shooting: 15-year-old faces murder charges

The Department of Justice filed three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder against a 15-year-old student for the June 22 school shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City that killed three students and injured 20 others. Tacloban City prosecutors filed the charges before the Family Court on July 13, following inquest proceedings. The minor allegedly conspired with a 14-year-old boy who was found not criminally liable. Additional charges include four counts of frustrated murder and six counts of attempted murder, with recommended bail amounts. Prosecutors determined the 15-year-old acted with discernment, meaning he could distinguish right from wrong. The 14-year-old will undergo an intervention program. A separate school shooting occurred in Zamboanga City on August 18, killing two students.
