T-cell interferon gamma responses to SARS-CoV-2 in Tanzanian adults

A study in Tanzania found robust T-cell responses to SARS-CoV-2 in adults, regardless of vaccination status, despite challenges with high background immune activity. Researchers observed that T-cell responses to the virus's Spike and Nucleocapsid proteins were present in a quarter of participants. However, over 70% showed high background interferon-gamma release, masking specific responses. The study highlights the need for caution when interpreting T-cell assays in populations with heightened baseline immune activity, suggesting potential modifications for such assays.
