Syed Akbaruddin appointed to RBI central board for four-year term

Former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin has been appointed as a part-time, non-official director on the Reserve Bank of India's Central Board for a four-year term, with the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approving the decision. Akbaruddin, a 1985-batch Indian Foreign Service officer who served as India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2016 to 2020, joins alongside Annie George Mathew and Janmejaya Kumar Sinha. The board oversees the central bank's general direction and business affairs. Since 2021, Akbaruddin has served as Dean of the Kautilya School of Public Policy at GITAM University. His background in multilateral affairs and diplomacy brings expertise in global economic matters to the board's discussions on international trade and geopolitical factors.
