Sydney Olympic Park plans to quintuple residents to 25,000 by 2050
Sydney Olympic Park is set to undergo a major transformation, with a masterplan aiming to quintuple its residential population from 5,000 to about 25,000 by 2050 through the construction of up to 15,000 new homes. The plan, led by the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, seeks to shift the precinct from a transient event destination into a vibrant, liveable suburb with new schools, parks, and commercial spaces. Planning Minister Paul Scully says the key is increasing housing to support a permanent community, though job targets have been reduced from 32,000 to 26,000. The project faces significant infrastructure hurdles, including infrequent train services and delays to the Parramatta light rail extension. However, the Metro West line, opening in 2032, is expected to connect the area to the CBD in 15 minutes, supporting the planned housing growth.
