Swiss streaming platforms boost investment by 25%, still short of legal target

Swiss authorities reported Thursday that streaming platforms and foreign TV channels increased audiovisual investments by 25% last year, but spending still falls a third short of the legal requirement. Under the "Lex Netflix", approved by voters in 2022 and effective 2024, 22 platforms and broadcasters must invest 4% of Swiss turnover. With combined revenue estimated at 817 million francs, required spending is 33 million; last year they spent 19.9 million. The Federal Office of Culture published the review Thursday, saying it is logical that efforts are not yet at 100 percent. The findings are expected to animate discussions at the Locarno film festival.
