Sustaining kangaroo mother care at home: perspectives from families in South India

A study in South India found that while mothers are committed to Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) for their low-birth-weight infants, they face significant challenges continuing it at home. Families reported difficulties with breastfeeding, KMC practice, and the crucial role of family support, with traditional gender norms hindering consistent home practice despite hospital encouragement. The research suggests structured education for all caregivers, including grandmothers and fathers, and improved community follow-up are needed to sustain KMC practices post-discharge.
