Suspect in Toronto murder has violent criminal history

Adimabua Chukwuka, 31, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a homeless man in Toronto. The man, identified as 60-year-old Mario Ferreira, was found dead near the University of Toronto campus on Thursday morning. Police allege that Chukwuka attacked Ferreira with debris while he was lying on a bench. Chukwuka has a history of violent crime. He previously faced charges of attempted murder and assault with a weapon. In 2014, he was charged with 10 offences related to multiple stabbings, including attempted murder and aggravated assault. In April 2022, he received additional charges after two incidents. He allegedly pulled a knife on a man and stole his cellphone, and stabbed another man during a dispute. The outcomes of these past charges are not known at this time. Chukwuka was arrested late Friday afternoon, just hours after Ferreira's death. Police have obtained video evidence of the alleged attack.
