Suriname's Foreign Minister Albert Ramdin summoned the Guyanese ambassador to protest plans for an airstrip and school in the disputed Tigri Area. Ramdin stated that this presence violates agreements made in 1970. The Tigri Area, also known as the New River Triangle, is claimed by both Suriname and Guyana. The Guyanese government has not yet responded to the protest.
