Supreme Court sends Prashant Bhushan to Delhi High Court over BCI lawyer assault case

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed advocate Prashant Bhushan to approach the Delhi High Court for relief regarding young lawyers beaten during a protest at the Bar Council of India premises on August 21. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant heard Bhushan's oral mention, where he alleged BCI chairperson Manan Kumar Mishra called the protesters "legal cockroaches" and sought a CBI probe. Justice Joymalya Bagchi noted lawyers have protest rights but remain a disciplined community with multiple grievance fora. Bhushan stated the protesting lawyers were mostly in their twenties and that no one has the right to beat anyone. The court observed it would be more opportune for the petition to be filed in the High Court first, and Bhushan agreed to comply.
