Supreme Court of India considers expanding vehicle sticker scheme to combat air pollution beyond Delhi
The Supreme Court of India is considering extending the use of hologram-based colour-coded stickers for vehicles to states and Union Territories beyond the National Capital Region (NCR). This follows a previous order from 2018 that implemented the scheme in the NCR. Currently, petrol and CNG vehicles in the NCR use light blue stickers, while diesel vehicles have orange stickers. The court noted that compliance with the sticker scheme has been low, with over 50% of vehicles lacking the required stickers. The court will hear further arguments on this issue on January 15, 2025. It aims to enhance enforcement of the sticker scheme to help reduce air pollution in the region.
