Supply chain issues delay second pedestrian entrance on Charleston side of Ravenel Bridge

postandcourier.com

Supply chain issues have delayed the opening of a second pedestrian entrance on the Charleston side of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge until early 2025. The stairwell is built but lacks a railing, which is on back order. This new access point is part of safety upgrades following the deaths of two pedestrians in April 2024. Other improvements include a new traffic light and crosswalks along Morrison Drive, expected to be completed by March 2025. Earlier this year, additional railing was installed at the bridge's entrance after a driver mistakenly entered the pedestrian walkway. The state Department of Transportation added fencing to prevent similar incidents in the future.
