Super typhoon Kong-rey approaches Taiwan with landfall expected Thursday
Super typhoon Kong-rey has intensified and is heading towards Taiwan, with winds reaching 240 kilometers per hour. It is expected to make landfall early Thursday in Taitung, affecting nearly the entire island. Taiwan's Central Weather Administration has issued land warnings for over half of the island's counties. The storm is predicted to bring heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and landslides, with waves potentially reaching eight meters high. Taiwan's military has placed 36,000 soldiers on standby for rescue efforts. Most flights and ferries are still operating normally, but classes and work have been suspended on Green Island and Orchid Island.
