Study reveals lethal chocolate consumption levels for humans and pets

A recent analysis by Dr. Naveed Saleh explores how much chocolate could be lethal. Theobromine, a stimulant in cocoa beans, can be toxic in high doses, affecting the nervous and cardiovascular systems. For a 150-pound person, about 68,000 mg of theobromine is considered toxic. This translates to consuming around 711 Hershey’s milk chocolate bars or 332 dark chocolate bars, which is highly unlikely. Initial symptoms of theobromine poisoning include nausea and vomiting, which may prevent individuals from consuming dangerous amounts. Chocolate is particularly toxic to pets, as they metabolize theobromine much slower than humans.
