Study: Politicians in UK and Sweden use AI to write speeches without telling voters
Politicians in Sweden and the UK are using AI to write parliamentary texts without disclosing it, according to a new study, with up to 15% of UK statements in 2026 containing AI-generated paragraphs. Researchers analyzed 13,565 Swedish motions and 4,209 UK statements from 2021 to April 2026 using AI detectors. They found 9.4% of Swedish motions in 2025-2026 contained AI-assisted paragraphs, up from 1.7% in 2022-2023, with no disclosure found in any text. The study's authors call for transparency, noting AI-written texts are often persuasive and may hide errors. Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson has admitted using AI tools for "second opinions," while Green Party MP Jan Riise said he prefers writing personally.
