Study links high glucose levels and inflammation to faster brain aging and increased dementia risk
A new study from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden found that high glucose levels and inflammation can cause brains to age faster, increasing dementia risk. The research analyzed brain images of 739 cognitively healthy individuals aged 70. Using artificial intelligence, researchers estimated the biological age of participants' brains. They discovered that conditions like diabetes and stroke were linked to older-looking brains, while regular exercise was associated with younger brain appearances. The study highlights the importance of maintaining healthy blood vessels to protect brain health. Researchers plan to further investigate differences in resilience between men and women.
