Study links heavy cannabis use to reduced brain activity in young adults
A study from the University of Colorado found that heavy cannabis use is linked to reduced brain activity in young adults. The research involved 1,000 participants aged 22 to 36 and focused on their working memory during cognitive tasks. Results showed that 63% of heavy lifetime users and 68% of recent users had decreased brain activity while performing memory tasks. The study highlighted significant effects on cognitive functions like decision-making and attention. Researchers emphasized the need for larger studies to better understand the long-term impacts of cannabis on brain function. They noted that abstaining from cannabis before cognitive tasks might improve performance.
