Students need five O-level subjects for JC applications

Starting in 2028, students applying to junior colleges (JC) in Singapore will only need five O-level subjects instead of six. The new L1R4 score requires a maximum of 16 points, down from the previous L1R5 score of 20 points. This change aims to reduce academic pressure and allow students to focus on their strengths. Students will still need to meet specific subject requirements, including English and relevant subjects, but will now only need one additional subject instead of two. Additionally, four junior colleges will undergo upgrades to improve facilities and support modern teaching methods. These renovations are part of a broader initiative to enhance the educational environment in Singapore.
