Students challenge expulsions over alleged fights in Dundalk
Three female students from Dundalk Institute of Technology are challenging their expulsions after being involved in four alleged fights in January 2024. They argue that the college did not provide reasons for their expulsions and did not consider lesser sanctions. The High Court granted a judicial review in July 2024. The students claim the disciplinary actions were disproportionate and that the appeals committee failed to adequately explain its decision. The college maintains that the expulsions were justified due to the severity of the incidents, which included physical altercations and an arranged fight. The court has reserved judgment on the case.
