Strauss's 'Wiener Blut' opens at Schloss Tabor

On Wednesday evening, Schloss Tabor hosted the summer’s likely hottest premiere: Johann Strauss’s operetta “Wiener Blut” delighted the audience with melodies and a turbulent case of mistaken identities. The operetta was assembled after Strauss’s death from existing compositions. The Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg under Peter Sommerer played spiritedly. The ensemble showed great singing, acting, and dancing; soprano Friederike Meinke stood out as Countess Zedlau. The original is set during the Vienna Congress, but director Rita Sereinig relocated it to a cruise ship, “MS Wiener Blut.” Ten more performances run through August 16.
