States and environmental groups withdraw lawsuit over USPS electric vehicle plans

reuters.com

A coalition of 16 states, led by California, and environmental groups have dropped a lawsuit against the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) regarding its vehicle purchase plans. The lawsuit aimed to block USPS's initial plan to buy mostly gas-powered vehicles. Since the lawsuit was filed in 2022, USPS has changed its strategy. It now plans to acquire a majority of electric vehicles, supported by $3 billion in funding from Congress for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. The Postal Service aims to purchase around 66,000 electric vehicles by 2028. While some lawmakers still advocate for a higher percentage of gas-powered vehicles, USPS has committed to transitioning to an all-electric fleet by 2026.
