Staten Island University Hospital launches non-invasive prostate cancer treatment using ultrasound technology
Staten Island University Hospital has introduced a new non-invasive treatment for localized prostate cancer using the Focal One High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound system. This technology targets cancerous tissue with high-frequency ultrasound, minimizing side effects and recovery time. The treatment was funded by outgoing Councilman Joe Borelli, who allocated $682,500 for the project. The hospital emphasizes that this system allows for precise targeting of cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue. The Focal One system integrates advanced imaging and robotic technology, enhancing treatment accuracy. This development marks a significant advancement in prostate cancer care for Staten Island residents.
