Staten Island Little League field gets major upgrade with new turf infield
Staten Island's Hy Turkin Little League field has received a significant upgrade with the installation of a turf infield, replacing its long-standing dirt surface. This change, funded by community fundraisers, aims to improve playability and eliminate drainage issues. The project, completed in under three weeks at a cost of approximately $250,000, allows the field to host both baseball and softball games. The outfield remains grass, while the new turf infield is designed for regulation Little League games. This renovation is part of a broader plan for future improvements to the league's facilities. The upgrades will enhance the experience for players and enable the field to host special events, including All-Star competitions.
