State reclaims aid from hostile rape survivors
The state will reclaim financial aid from three rape survivors who turned hostile during their trials, leading to the acquittal of the accused. The survivors received financial assistance under the Manodhairya scheme, designed to support victims of sexual assault. They contradicted their initial statements in court, prompting the District Legal Services Authority to seek repayment of the funds. The Manodhairya scheme requires cooperation with the prosecution to maintain aid. Notices have been issued, and failure to comply could result in property seizure. A committee is also being formed to study hostility rates in such cases.
