StarHub and Keppel in talks over potential M1 deal

Singapore telecom operators StarHub and Keppel confirmed Wednesday they are in talks over a potential deal involving M1, though both stressed no transaction is certain. The discussions follow the collapse of rival Simba's proposed acquisition of M1 months earlier. StarHub said it is discussing "a possible transaction in relation to M1 Limited" with Keppel, M1's parent company, adding there is "no certainty or assurance" the talks will progress. Keppel confirmed the discussions, stating no definitive agreement has been reached and that it continues to explore consolidation opportunities it believes are "needed for Singapore's telco sector." Keppel said it remains focused on strengthening M1's performance to maximize its strategic value in any future industry consolidation. The statements came in response to a Business Times report that StarHub was in advanced talks with Keppel over an M1 deal.
