Stamford Speed Cameras Launch in September at 14 School Zone Locations

Stamford will launch its Automated Speed Enforcement Program in September at 14 locations across seven school zones, Mayor Caroline Simmons announced this week. The program aims to improve roadway safety and support the city's Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities by 2032. Cameras will be installed near Cloonan Middle School, Springdale Elementary School, Dolan Middle School, Toquam Elementary School, Stamford High School, Julia A. Stark Elementary School, K.T. Murphy Elementary School, and Strawberry Hill School. The initiative begins with a 45-day warning period, after which fines of $50 for first offenses and $75 for subsequent ones, plus a $15 processing fee, will apply to vehicles exceeding speed limits by 11 mph or more. The Stamford Board of Representatives passed the enabling ordinance in April 2024 and approved camera locations in June 2024, with state approval granted in January 2026. Fines are civil penalties, not affecting driver's licenses or insurance, and collected funds will support transportation and roadway safety improvements.
