Sri Lanka emerges as hub for Chinese cyber crime syndicates

Sri Lanka is rapidly emerging as a base for international Chinese cyber crime syndicates, prompting senior police officials to warn the top leadership about the escalating crisis. Nearly 1,000 foreign nationals, including Chinese, Cambodian, Myanmar, and Vietnamese citizens, were arrested in recent raids. The recovery of a Chinese national's body on July 23 has heightened concerns over the growing operations of these international mafia groups on the island. The victim, who entered Sri Lanka with fraudulent passports, was kidnapped and killed by a rival gang. Police identified eight suspects, with three believed to still be in Sri Lanka. Investigations revealed three methods criminals use to abuse the visa system, including registering shell companies in Colombo Port City.
