Spider-Man: Brand New Day maintains record pace; Nolan's Odyssey tops $1 billion worldwide

Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned $144.5 million domestically in its second weekend, reaching $1.67 billion worldwide in 10 days, the fastest pace ever for a U.S. release. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey also crossed $1 billion globally. The Sony-Marvel film has grossed $655.1 million in North America and surpassed $1 billion overseas, becoming the year’s top movie in seven days. Its second weekend neared the record $149.2 million set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. The Odyssey added $31.5 million domestically in its fourth weekend, totaling $1.1 billion, Nolan’s biggest hit unadjusted for inflation. It set an IMAX domestic record with $147.3 million and opens in China on Friday. Both films helped drive summer revenue toward $4 billion, with ticket sales up 18.5% year-over-year.
