SpaceX and T-Mobile launch emergency Direct-to-Cell coverage in Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton
SpaceX's Starlink and T-Mobile have launched Direct-to-Cell coverage in Florida to provide emergency alerts as Hurricane Milton approaches. This service allows users to send texts and contact emergency services, even if messages may require multiple attempts to go through. The service connects phones to Starlink satellites, displaying "T-Mobile SpaceX" in the network name. It works best outdoors or near windows. The Federal Communications Commission has approved this coverage to assist areas affected by Hurricane Helene and those in Milton's path. SpaceX is also delivering over 10,000 Starlink kits to restore connectivity in regions impacted by Hurricane Helene. Emergency alerts, including evacuation notices, have already been sent through the Starlink network.
