South Korea's telecom giants SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus plan AI-focused reorganization for 2025

South Korea's three major mobile carriers, SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus, plan to reorganize in 2025 to enhance their artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities while maintaining focus on their core communication services. This marks a shift towards integrating AI into their existing operations. SK Telecom has restructured into seven divisions, emphasizing both communication and AI. KT aims to evolve into an "AICT Company," merging IT and AI with telecommunications. LG Uplus is transitioning to an AI-focused model, unifying its service platforms to improve consumer engagement. Despite the push for AI, the companies continue to prioritize their traditional communication services, which remain their primary revenue source. In the third quarter of 2023, SK Telecom reported sales of 3.203 trillion won, KT 4.765 trillion won, and LG Uplus 2.9904 trillion won, highlighting the importance of their existing business models.
