South Korea's space agency releases Moon images after SpaceX debris hits lunar surface

South Korea’s space agency released lunar orbiter images showing the Moon before and after SpaceX rocket debris crashed into its surface Wednesday. The Korean AeroSpace Administration said orbiter Danubri captured images after the 06:35 GMT impact. The debris was an empty Falcon 9 upper stage, about a five-storey building and weighing roughly 4,000kg, striking at about 5,400mph. The impact posed no danger to Earth, but astronomer Matt Bothwell warned space grows increasingly crowded. The Falcon 9 launched in January 2025 carrying two lunar landers; its spent stage drifted until the strike.
